First things first. Load and set up the drums, this always takes a big chunk of the initial day. John Raham’s studio is like stepping back in time, with vintage preamps and boards, old pianos and keyboards. Sam Cartwright is calm and collected, ready to get the drums sounding fat and tight. I’m on a coffee and snacks run, the mood is light & Jason Kechely and I are having laugh sharing bad jokes and listening to Beck’s new record in the car. Rest of the band will be showing up in the next hour or so.. (at Afterlife Studios)
Malama Ka Aina (sneak peak) We’re going into this weekend to lay down our bed tracks for the new record. Feeling so grateful for this band and blessed to share this love music.
Here’s an interview I did last summer with Fresh Independence at the Sun Yat Sen Gardens in Vancouver. I apologize for the number of ‘ums’ right now, but apart from that…um, it’s a pretty darn good little feature they put together from that sunny day! I like how they approached things as I got to share things like where I am from - Canada yes but also Malaysia, Taiwan and England. It’s got some good recordings of me with my ukelele, too. And it’s in the Chinese Gardens which is perfect as I feel very connected to that serene environment and have done some special shows there over the years.
Little tour video from the Kootenays. Some ridiculousness and good times with Shane Philip Music and friends. Hallelujah!!
